Contract and consulting work
Nimbus Peak Solutions is a one-person studio in Boulder, Colorado. Besides building my own apps, I take on contract and consulting work for founders and startups who need an experienced engineer to own a project.
You work with me directly for the whole project, and nothing gets handed off to a junior team. I'm taking new clients now and can usually start within a few weeks.
Mobile app development
iOS and Android apps in React Native and Expo, from an empty repo through App Store and Google Play review. I also pick up apps that stalled partway. I've shipped apps professionally in digital health and education, as well as my own.
Web apps, backends & APIs
Next.js, React, and TypeScript on the front end; Node, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL on the back end. That includes authentication, database migrations, error handling, and a deploy process your team can run without me.
Fractional tech lead & advising
Architecture reviews, technical due diligence, hiring and interview process design, and roadmap reviews. A good fit for startups that need someone senior part-time before they're ready to hire a CTO.
Rescue & modernization
Audits, incremental rewrites, and migrations for codebases that have become hard to work in. This is also my day job: at Rosetta Stone I'm leading a ground-up rewrite on mobile and web.
Selected work
Two recent client sites. I handled both from design through deployment. My own products are on the apps page.
The site for a long-running podcast about parenting a dyslexic child, with all 144 episodes and their full transcripts, a research library, a resource directory, and an appearances calendar. Many listeners find reading hard, so readers can change the text size, line spacing, and typeface (including a dyslexia-friendly font) or switch to dark mode, and the site remembers their settings.

A book site for the author of When You Know What I Know (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers). Books, an events calendar, press and media, free classroom discussion guides, and a contact form that sends school-visit and speaking requests to the author's inbox.
